Exposure and Response Prevention for OCD
A clinician’s treatment manual for delivering evidence-based ERP with confidence. Written for the therapist who finished graduate school without ever being taught how to run an exposure.
Paperback, 138 pages. Published June 2026. By Emily Pierce, LPC-A, LCMHC-A.

Why this manual exists
ERP is the gold standard, and most of us were never taught it
Exposure and Response Prevention is the most effective evidence-based treatment for obsessive-compulsive disorder. Yet many clinicians finish training without ever learning how to deliver it, which means clients who need ERP often receive supportive talk therapy instead. This manual closes that gap.
It is written by a clinician trained in ERP through the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety, and it walks through the full arc of treatment: assessment and case formulation, building exposure hierarchies, running in-session exposures, and helping clients hold the line against compulsions and reassurance-seeking.
I created this manual to give fellow clinicians the practical, hands-on tool I wished I’d had earlier in my own work with OCD.
